    Emergency Situations

This Thread is to help us get prepared for emergencies. There are lots of different types, which we can expand on in the thread. I'm going to start with a hurricane emergency. I was in Lowe's yesterday and saw this flyer. Let's make some comments....

Good post, Marvin. This is suppose to be a bad year for hurricanes. Too many people don't prepare. The good news is we usually have a few days warning. People procrastinate, I do. Not a bad idea to have an emergency bag to take in the car when you leave. Remember, you could be in a LOT of traffic.

If you plan to stick it out (which I wouldn't recommend), I'd have a couple of tanks for my grill (At least 1 backup). Used it last time when we were without power for a week. Used the grill for cooking and coffee. Hot coffee made life much easier.

The below kit is an example, not mine. No need to use huge lawn bags. Small kitchen bags or even grocery bags would work. And no need to have a toilet seat, simply put the bag in your toilet.

I always save my plastic grocery bags. They'd go great on your medical potty.

There are lots of sites out there telling what to do in emergencies. Every person should have provisions for all types of emergencies, not just short-term. I have enough freeze dried food and supplies for my family for at least 6 months. Water straws are very cheap. Get a bunch of them. Be prepared - don't be part of the problem.
I miss the good ol' days.

You are so right, Old Hippie. Everyone should take some time to look into getting prepared. Canned goods last many years beyond their expiration date. Nothing could be worse than not being able to provide for your family. Prepping allows me to sleep better at night.
