Terms of Service (TOS) - BeachConnections.com

The majority of content posted on the Forum, Blogs, and Articles are created by members of the public. BeachConnections.com does not monitor submissions or posts, including pictures/images. The views expressed are theirs and unless specifically stated are not ours. We are not are responsible for any content posted by members of the public on BeachConnection.com or for the availability or content of any third party sites that are accessible through our site.

Any links to third party websites from BeachConnections.com do not amount to any endorsement of that site by us and any use of that site by you is at your own risk.

We continually work hard to make BeachConnections.com an interesting and enjoyable place to visit. We cannot guarantee you will always find things that you like or agree with. Let's face it, even at a family reunion, there are always going to be a wide range of thoughts, opinions and characters. It's not unlike our online community. A community is by nature made up of diverse opinions and personalities.

This is NOT an anything goes web site. BeachConnections.com rules are here so that the forum is a friendly and useful resource for everyone who visits. Our rules outline what we think is acceptable behavior and it is important that you read them carefully and stick to them. Basically, they ask you to be polite and use common sense.

We don't actively monitor the site, so should you find any content that you feel is inappropriate or not in line with these rules, please let us know by using the "Report" at the bottom of the Post. If we agree that it should be removed, we will remove it as soon as possible. But please remember, this is a community site, there are going to be some things that you may not agree with, but that doesn't make them violations of our rules. We believe in Free Speech, and don't want to become Orwell's "Thought Police" at BeachConnections.com. The "Live and Let Live" line is a great mantra for our lives.

The use of this site is solely at your risk. If you rely on any material or information through it, you do so at your own risk. You are solely responsible for any damage to your computer system or loss of data that results from any material and/or data downloaded from or provided through BeachConnections.com.

The Material and comments on BeachConnections.com is for informational purposes only. If you are going to act on information you found on BeachConnections.com, make sure you confirm the facts for yourself. As you know, many experts aren't really experts. (For example, if a post states that drinking a full glass of prune juice before bedtime will help you sleep better, check with someone in the medical field before you do it.) Always check your facts. Be skeptical, be aware, be careful.

We reserve the right to delete any contribution, or take action against any Forum, Blog, or Article account, at any time, for any reason that we feel is best for the site.

A. Posting Content (Content implies the forums, articles, and blogs)
The Forum is provided for your use. The views and opinions expressed on the Forum don't necessarily reflect the opinions of owners or staff.

You must not submit any content that doesn't comply with these Rules. Please read the rules carefully as accessing and taking part in the Forum constitutes your acceptance of these rules. Please abide by the following:
  1. Consistent with the Federal Children's Online Privacy Act of 1998 (COPPA), we will not knowingly request identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13. By using the service, you're confirming that you are 13 years or over. We reserve the right to check.
  2. Don't break any relevant local, state, national or international law or which incites or encourages others to break any such law. We reserve the right to report to the relevant authorities any content which we believe to be illegal.
  3. Don't be abusive, threatening, repeatedly a cause of nuisance or annoyance or negative towards other members or our staff.
  4. Don't try to continually bait people into arguments.
  5. Do not infringe on the rights (including but not limited to the intellectual property rights) of any person or legal entity.
  6. Do not intentionally and inaccurately defame a person or business. We would turn over any information to law enforcement if requested.
  7. Never infringe on the privacy of an individual or company, including (but not limited to) posting location and/or contact details of another person.
  8. There is no place here for a Forum Bully. You know the type - a constantly negative person who is not interested in contributing, but would rather disagree with posts simply to get a reaction. These bullies are clever; they'll pick an argument, pull you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

B. MORE Rules....Violations of Rules

Level 1
First Offense: Warning - Request you rephrase or delete your post
Second Offense: 1 week suspension
Third Offense: Possible Ban

Level 2
First Offense: 2 week suspension
Second Offense: Possible Ban

1. Be polite. (Level 1)
Be polite to others. People come to this website to find information, make observations, discuss and debate issues, and to have a good time. In other words, don't be a continual jerk to nice members.

2. No discrimination. (Level 2)
No blatant discrimination at BeachConnections.com. This includes being racist, homophobic, discriminating against religions. We want this website to be a positive environment not one that makes people reluctant to post what they believe in.

3. Profanity (Level 1)
You are allowed to use mild profanity but not in excess and only in threads that are comfortable with it. There is no reason to be vulgar or drop the F-bomb to get a point across. Many are offended with using the Lord's name in vain, so please refrain from using it. I can't think of a single situation where being vulgar strengthens an argument or point. It's a common curtesy thing not to intentionally offend people.

4. English Only
BeachConnections.com is an English Only website. Nothing against other languages, but it's the only one the staff understands.

5. Debate, don't Argue. (Level 1)
Disagreements are expected and welcomed. They make for lively discussion. You may debate various topics, but under no circumstance should it devolve into a huge argument. Members' opinions will be respected if they are presented in a civilized and respectful way. A positive community spirit is our goal.

6. Do not harass other users (Level 1)
Whether it is for beliefs, opinions, sexual purposes or otherwise. Harassment can be continually bothering members about anything. Is innocent flirting wrong? Yes. It's not innocent if the recipient doesn't want it. Use your brain and don't flirt.

7. No spamming (Level 1)
* No porn or links to porn.
* No multiple posts about a business or links to it.
* No bumping threads too often or making unrelated posts or threads numerous times.
* Another form of spam is multi-posting. This means posting the same thing multiple times, if there is
already a thread on it post in there. Don't make another thread on the same thing or on the same
* Do not market businesses or trades unless it's in the appropriate section.

8. Respect our Staff (Level 1)
Our staff here at BeachConnections.com are always trying to help you and keep control of the website at the same time, so we ask that you respect the staff at all times. If you harass or disrespect them, they will warn you and if you continue to disrespect them, they are allowed to suspend you.

9. Post in the appropriate section
Please post in the right section, failure to do so will result in a moderator having to move or delete the thread, so please save our staff some work and try to post it correctly.

10. No Personal Information (Level 1)
"On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog" is an adage which began as a cartoon caption by Peter Steiner and published by The New Yorker on July 5, 1993. The cartoon features two dogs: one sitting on a chair in front of a computer, speaking the caption to a second dog sitting on the floor.

The cartoon is funny, but has a scary overtone to it. Please do not give out any personal information. Username and your general area where you live are fine but please do not post your real name, social security number, home address, personal e-mail address, phone number, cell number, credit card number, or anything else that is personal information. Never give out anyone else's information - You will be banned. If you wish to share your information with another member please send it to them in a PM message. But, we don't recommend it unless you're sure of the person you're sending it to. If you ask members for someone's personal information, you can be banned from the site. This is for everyone's safety, so please respect this rule.

11. No Double Posting (Level 1)
Double posting means posting two posts one after the other in the same thread.

12. Bumping (Level 1)
Bumping is when you post something in the thread either "bump" or anything else for the thread to go at the top of the list again. Bumping is not allowed here since it's a bit rude and spammy.

13. No Advertising (Level 1)
Please do not market or advertise businesses, websites, or get rich schemes in a forum or thread unless it's germane to the topic. However you may put your business website's URL in your signature. To put a business in your "signature," you must have a business license for either Horry or Georgetown County. BeachConnections.com forums are for discussion and giving advice to others. If you post goods or services it is considered spam and will be removed and you could be banned.

What is acceptable: If you're giving good advice in the Photography Forum, you can use a link to your business in your Signature. Or if another member asks you about your business.

14. Trolling the Member List (Level 2)
This is a serious issue for us. The moderators at BeachConnections.com watch for people trolling the member list to send messages asking for friends, inviting them to join schemes or advertising services. These trollers will banned and their content deleted. If you are approached via PC (personal conversation) by anyone making unsolicited offers please report them to an admin and it will be dealt with. If you send us a violation, your username will remain anonymous. We may delete the troller's membership.

15. Images (Level 1)
Before posting Content which contains an image of another person on private property, make sure it is not an invasion of privacy, violation of right of publicity (used for commercial purposes), or defamation. It is not an invasion of privacy to photograph someone in a public place or at any event where the public is invited. The beach is considered a public place. Use common sense and do not take pictures of children unless you have the parents' or guardians' permission.

16. Tolerance (Level 1)
This is a community forum, so there are going to be diverse beliefs and opinions. People do not always agree with each other, and that's probably a good thing. People strongly believe in what they are saying and others just as strongly disagree. We understand disagreements, but not name calling and putting people down. There's always a pleasant way to make your point in a discussion. Be nice. In other words, you may debate various topics, but under no circumstance should it turn into a huge argument.

17. Polls
You will see polls on the site. Some are made by staff and some are created by members.

18. Ads and Classifieds (Level 1)
The "Directory" and "Classified" are here for you to advertise businesses, goods or services that "you" have to offer. This is not to advertise websites that belong to others or affiliate links that you will make money off leads or sales. This is considered spam and will be removed and you can be deleted as a member. We reserve the right to edit, reclassify, revise, cancel, or reject any ad. We do not knowingly accept advertising that discriminates or libels individuals or companies. Any mistakes or errors that we make shall not exceed the amount you paid for the use of our service. We do not knowingly accept ads regarding employment that are not legitimate job opportunities. We accept no responsibility or liability for errors or omissions.

19. Real Estate Ads
Any real estate advertised on BeachConnection.com is subject to the Fair Housing Act, making it illegal to advertise property based on discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial (family) status, or national origin. To complain of discrimination call the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development at (800-699-9777).

20. To Reiterate:

* No Flaming: An online argument that becomes nasty or derisive, where insulting a party takes precedence over the actual topic of the post.
* No Trolling: a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.
Example: User Post: "I just saw the coolest movie."
Troller Post: "I just saw the dumbest poster - you."
* No Profaning: treating something sacred with irreverence or disrespect.
* No Soliciting: Unless in the proper sections
* No Defaming: damage the good reputation of (someone or a business). This is slander or libel. Remember, Freedom of Speech does not permit members to post just about anything. You can have an opinion but unless it's a fact or substantiated, you can incur your own legal trouble.
* No hateful, racist, sexist, homophobic, or personally insulting remarks.
* Stay on topic.
* Be considerate of the site and other members.
* Don't believe it just because it's on the Internet.

Common tiny file, sort of like a user ID. BeachConnections.com uses cookies (like just about all sites) to track members' login status. Cookies are very small identifiers sent from our site to your hard drive so our site recognizes you when you visit. (Think of a cookie like a window decal to get you in a gated community. With the decal, you drive in without stopping and don't have to register with the security guard every time you enter.) We do not use cookie data for marketing. You are free to disable or delete cookies at any time on your computer, but it could make it difficult to navigate the site. We have no control over cookies that are on sites you link to off our site.

However, by submitting to or making available any content on BeachConnections.com you agree to grant us a perpetual, royalty-free, irrevocable, non-exclusive, sub-licensable right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, make available to the public (on the Forum or elsewhere), and exercise all copyright and publicity rights with respect to the content worldwide and/or to incorporate your contribution in other works in any media now known or later developed for the full term of any rights that may exist in your content as we may require. By submitting or making available any content to the Forum, Blogs, or Articles, you also agree to waive all moral rights in that content. We reserve the right to review and revise our Rules from time to time without giving you prior notice and by using the Forum after any revision of our terms and conditions, you agree to be bound by the changes we've made.

We do not have many rules so we expect you to follow and obey them. If at any time the rules are broken, the moderators will do what they think is an appropriate consequence for the action(s) made. However if at any given time you feel like you have been unfairly punished or you find the consequence didn't seem appropriate please contact me at either by a PC (personal conversation) or by e-mail: BeachConnections@gmail.com, copy and paste whatever the issue is/was with a little explanation and I will have a look at it. Thank you.

If you can think of anything on the Rules or Privacy Policy that I have omitted, should be amended, or needs clarification, please contact me.
